Van Gooi speeds up panel construction with the Zeta 630
Van Gooi was looking for a way to make his panel construction faster and more scalable. Increasing demand called for a production process that was less dependent on manual labor and scarce technical personnel. The choice for the Zeta 630 was therefore obvious. Through Draad, a specialized partner that supplies custom wiring, Van Gooi was already familiar with the quality of Komax. This made it clear that an automated approach would significantly optimize the internal production process.
Fully automated wire processing as the new standard
With the Zeta 630, wire processing is fully automated. The machine cuts, strips, marks, and sorts wires in a single continuous process and can process up to thirty-six different wire types without changeover time, even from batch size one. As a result, Van Gooi receives wire sets that are immediately suitable for assembly: accurate, uniform, and with virtually no manual intervention.
The switch to this automation makes output predictable and consistent. Every set of wires comes out of the machine with the same quality, which enhances the reliability of the entire production process.
The role of operators in the new process
One operator controls the Zeta 630. The other operators are supplied with ready-made wire sets, precisely tailored to their assembly work. By involving the team from the outset, the process design could be directly aligned with daily practice.
Their insights were used to streamline the workflow and better align it with the assembly process. This provides a better overview and reduces time lost on repetitive tasks.
Major efficiency gains through automation
Automation eliminates a large part of the manual work. The Zeta 630 delivers accurate wire lengths, consistent strip lengths, and clear wire markings. This reduces the risk of errors and means that technicians spend less time on corrections.
The POSSS software also contributes to a more efficient process. Wire sorting is visually clear and the number of manual steps, such as twinning, is reduced. This ensures greater uniformity and traceability in the final panels.
New department improves throughput
To fully leverage the benefits of automation, Van Gooi has set up a new department for machine input and output. These employees also perform support tasks such as wire numbering, printing, and plug assembly. Because these tasks do not require technical training, the deployment of personnel becomes more flexible.
Because technicians can focus on assembly and finishing, the process is more efficient and there is more room for quality. The team has noticed that lead times are shorter and the work remains more organized, even when demand increases.
Choosing quality and reliability
The Zeta 630 was chosen for its combination of user-friendliness, stability, and performance. After comparing several suppliers, the decisive factors were the support provided by Smans and the proven reliability of Komax. The system was a good fit for Van Gooi’s ambitions, both technically and organizationally.
Automation as a growth strategy
Van Gooi is actively investigating how the entire process can be further optimized. For example, they are currently looking at how terminal strips can be preconfigured and delivered in a subsequent step. This would further speed up assembly and reduce the workload on the shop floor.
Thanks to the combination of software, automation, and smart preparation, production capacity is growing in line with demand. The process is becoming future-proof, flexible, and easily scalable.
Benefits for the customer
For customers, this means faster delivery, less risk of errors, and consistent quality with every order. In addition, Van Gooi can effortlessly respond to peaks in demand, allowing projects to continue without delay.
